Foggy Evening, St Agnes
Church
26cm x
56cm
watercolour on watercolour board
This painting is based on some photographs I had
taken a few weeks earlier, late on a June evening, on the island of St Agnes.
The sun was going down behind several strands of fogbanks, rendering the various
lines of rocky islets as sometimes there, sometimes not. The sky colours
added further notes of drama to the scene.
At the time I had been invited to do a
watercolour demonstration for the St Mary's Art Group. The idea was to
demonstrate large varied watercolour washes and the use of wet into wet
techniques, as well as to show the use of watercolour as a means to convey
moody atmospheric scenes. I thought this was the ideal subject to choose and so
did this painting as the demonstration.
